Nintendo Likely to Beat May Forecast of $244.2 Million

Nintendo will likely beat its May forecast of a 30 billion yen group net profit by around 15 percent even though sales could fall short of its initial target of 230 billion yen, analysts said.

The positive interim results are attributed to brisk sales of its Game Boy software and falling prices of key parts for its consoles. Analysts said a weaker yen and falling prices of key such as liquid crystal displays and semiconductors due to the stubborn info-tech slump would also help to jack up Nintendo’s profit. A weaker yen lifts the yen-based value of income earned abroad, a boon for a game maker that clocks 70 percent of its sales overseas.
