Now out of Early Access, Divinity: Original Sin 2 nears 500k sold

The game only recently emerged from a year-long Early Access period but is already close to crossing the 500k sold threshold.

Divinity: Original Sin 2 only recently emerged from a year-long Early Access period, but the game is already close to crossing the 500k sold threshold according to Larian Studios owner Swen Vincke. 

While the bulk of those sales did fall within the game’s shelflife as an Early Access title, Vincke told Eurogamer that at least 180k of those copies were picked on on PC within the past 4 days. 

"It is fantastic, but it is also way beyond what we expected,” said Vincke. He explains that the first Divinity: Original Sin took two or three months to cross 500k sold, and as such the team wasn’t expecting the 180k sale surge right out of the gate.

And while the surprise popularity is good news for the development team, Vincke notes that the higher-than-expected sales have naturally led to their own share of server issues that the time has since been working on ironing out.

"Lots of players means lots of support issues coming in and we're trying to service them as fast as we can,” Vincke told Eurogamer. “After that, it'll be a long well-deserved break for the team and then we'll boot up our machines again to work on the next things."
