CGSociety and Nvidia are holding a new digital arts competition called NVArt: The Amazing Creations, the deadline for which is January 7. Nvidia Corporation, which specializes in programmable graphics processor technologies and is sponsoring the contest, is asking digital artists to create images of amazing creations, calling for “images that capture the essence of something that could only exist in a virtual world. This embodies the most powerful attraction of digital art -- its ability to create truly amazing things that cannot exist in the real world.” Winners, who will be competing for part of the $21,000 prize pool, will be announced at the San Jose Art Museum in San Jose, Calif., February 1. Mark Snoswell, president of the CGSociety, said in a press release: “Nvidia are a driving force in the graphics industry and this competition is a great opportunity for artists to gain global exposure and a chance to win great prizes. Nvidia have been a constant and significant supporter of the CGSociety and Ballistic Media. They are major sponsors of our CGChallenges and we are pleased to expand our relationship with them.” Submissions will be reviewed by a distinguished panel of judges, including Pascal Blanche, of Ubisoft, Lorne Lanning of Oddworld Inhabitants, Stephan Martinere of Midway Games, and others.
