Nvidia revealed details about a new technical support program for end users and professional customers who use Linux, and released a new Linux driver package. According to the company, the latest Linux drivers bring the performance of graphics under Linux up to that of Windows graphics, and Quadro-based graphics can see improvements of up to 30% compared to previous driver versions. Additionally, users now get support for multi-monitor configurations, and certifications for Maya and Softimage|XSI, Shake and other graphics applications. Other enhancements delivered by the new Linux drivers include:

  • Support for pixel and vertex shaders for desktop and workstation GPUs

    • Support for OpenGL 1.4 with CineFX architecture and emulation mode for desktop and workstation GPUs

    • Multi-monitor support for desktop, workstation and mobile GPUs

    • Power management for hibernate and resume modes for NVIDIA mobile GPUs

    • hot-key support for mobile GPUs

    • Support for platform technologies provided by the company's nForce platform processors, including FireWire, audio, and networking capabilities. Additionally, end users who have technical support issues using Nvidia processors under Linux now have separate Linux support channels: e-mail support via [email protected] and a dedicated public forum at http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=14. The new Linux drivers can be downloaded from the company's web site.
