Today At Comdex, Nvidia today announced its new GeForce FX processor, which features a 500MHz processor, 1Ghz DDR2 memory and support for AGP8X and 128-bit color. Based on a .13 micron copper manufacturing process, the GeForce FX has almost twice the number of transistors as the GeForce4. The new CineFX engine can process up to 1024 pixel shader instructions in a single rendering pass, fetching up to 16 unique texture maps in a single pixel shader program. Naturally, the processor supports the Cg language that Nvidia developed, and implements OpenGL and the upcoming DirectX 9. Retail graphics boards based on the GeForce FX are scheduled to appear on the market in February 2003.
