Swedish-headquartered PC game publisher Paradox Interactive has announced the expansion of its online digital distribution internet portal, Gamer's Gate with publisher Cenega, which has agreed to offer its catalog of titles, including UFO: Aftershock, UFO: Aftermath, and Korea: Forgotten Conflict for download over the service. Paradox's building of the Gamer's Gate portal, which specializes in European-originated PC strategy titles, shows the increasing importance of digital distribution to the PC game market, with other notable efforts such as Valve's Steam portal, Stardock's TotalGaming.net, and IGN's Direct2Drive also working to making full games downloadable for those happy not to receive a physical copy. Cenega joins a number of other publishers and developers which already distribute games using the portal, including AGEOD (Birth of America), Ascaron Entertainment (Sacred Plus), Nival Interactive (Etherlords), Paradox Interactive (Rush for Berlin), and Taleworlds (Mount & Blade). Launched in 2003 and 2005 respectively, both UFO: Aftershock and UFO: Aftermath represent the first two parts in an ongoing series of PC strategy games that involve an alien invasion of Earth. Both games feature run-time generated missions and RPG elements as well. In addition, Korea: Forgotten Conflict is a 2003 PC strategy game in which the player takes on the role of the commander of a group of five military specialists during the Korean War of 1950 to 1953. The game features both real and original locations using approved military tactics, facilities and equipment. “Now that Cenega has joined Gamer's Gate, another step has been taken to ensure that the gameplay offered on the platform is diverse and will appeal to a variety of players,” said Susana Meza, PR & marketing director for Paradox Interactive. “The titles being launched at this time will present strategy gamers with challenges of a more tactical nature.”
