Penny Arcade has announced the Penny Arcade Scholarship, first run in 2007, is to return for the 2008-2009 academic year. The Penny Arcade Scholarship is a $10,000 award granted to one qualifying student applicant intending to pursue a career in the game industry. The application requires a two-page essay describing the applicant's studies and intent to benefit the game industry, two letters of recommendation, and a copy of the applicant's current academic transcripts. Other eligibility requirements include that the applicant must be a full-time student currently attending an accredited college or university, must have the intention to enter the game industry in some capacity and have a GPA with a 3.3 minimum on a 4.0 scale. In addition to the above, applications will be evaluated based on “a student's service, leadership, character and financial need.” Submissions must be postmarked no later than April 30, 2008 and the winner is to be announced in July.
