Pixologic has announced the forthcoming release of Zbrush 2, its 3D texture painting tool. Version 2 will begin shipping on March 31, and it features an improved UI, enhanced speed, and additional modeling and painting tools. New features include multi-resolution mesh editing (for adding both low- and high-frequency details), generation of displacement and normal maps for increased lighting realism, and new sculpting brushes. Customers who purchase the current version (1.55b) between now and the release date will pay the current price of $399 and receive a free upgrade to version 2. The new list price of version 2 will increase to $489. (Version 1.5 was one of the winners in the art category of the 2003 Gamasutra FLA awards.)
