Sony has announced plans to display its next-generation game system, the PlayStation 3, at the 2006 Taipei Game Show, according to a DigiTimes article. The showing will be the system's first appearance in Taipei, after displays in the Japanese Tokyo Game Show and the North American Electronic Entertainment Expo. It's difficult to discern precisely what will be shown at the conference. 20 of Sony's 80 booths reserved for the show will be devoted to the PS3, according to Chinese newspaper the Commercial Times. With that much space, it's probable that the system will have a larger presence than the mere hardware and controller mockups present at January's Consumer Electronics Show, although it's unlikely that any playable PS3 games will be present. Taipei Game Show attendees may simply be treated to the same video trailers already in circulation for the system's known games, including Tekken, Metal Gear Solid 4, Killzone, and Resident Evil 5. The system's large showing may be a hedge against rival Microsoft, which will be launching its Xbox 360 in Taipei on March 16th. The next-generation Xbox will debut with an expanded set from originally intended of 19 titles, including Call of Duty 2, Dead or Alive 4, NBA Live 06, Project Gotham Racing 3, and Ridge Racer 6.
