Plenoptics Ltd, developers of photo-based modeling solutions, have announced the availability of PhotoGenesis StandAlone, a photo-based modeling system designed for use with a variety of 3D modelling packages. PhotoGenesis provides customers with the ability to build and texture 3D models using photos as source data. The use of photos as source data increases the realism of scenes and objects, and provides significant time and cost savings for content creators. Since the object geometry is created directly from the photographs, correctly aligned photo-realistic texture maps can be generated automatically without further user interaction. Plenoptics PhotoGenesis StandAlone allows users to integrate their photographic assets into the 3D content creation process, generating accurate models quickly. Key features of PhotoGenesis StandAlone are rapid geometry and texture creation straight from your photographs, automatic solving for scale and orientation of model parts, texture scaling, full support for 3DStudio Max and Maya Wavefront through VRML, Wavefront OBJ and OpenFlight import and export.
