Serious games developer PMUdesign, which specializes in custom interactive applications for business and training, today announced a new series of computer-based marine simulators. The first title, vSHIP, is a full bridge simulator designed to train ship's officers and crew. Intended for both civilian and military training, PMUdesign notes that vSHIP is fully configurable for a wide variety of ship types, locations, weather and scenarios. The simulator is a full ARPA RADAR, ECDIS, and GMDSS simulation, and is able to nterface with external devices via NMEA 0183 serial and Ethernet network connections. The second title, vSHIP Man Overboard Simulator (vSHIP MOB) is a computer-based, interactive training system that teaches seagoing personnel how to effectively search for, and recover, a crewman that has fallen over the side. Scheduled to ship this fall, the software is intended for both ship's officers and crew, the training system includes, not only an interactive classroom, but also a full ship simulator. While using the simulator, the student can view the progress of their recovery from 3 viewpoints: the ship's bridge, a lookout post or from the erspective of the crew in the water. Other titles include vSHIP Harbor Simulation and vROV Submerged Vehicle Simulator. vSHIP Harbor Simulation combines the concepts of ship handling accuracy with satellite terrain data and photography to create any harbor (existing or imagined) and any weather condition for a variety of simulation needs. vROV Submerged Vehicle Simulator, on the other hand, takes simulation beneath the surface of the ocean. Currently in early stages of development, vROV is a physics accurate, realistic and highly configurable remotely operated (submerged) vehicle (ROV) simulator. Both vSHIP and vSHIP MOB are currently in beta testing and are expected to be released later this year. vSHIP Harbor Simulation and vROV are expected to be released early in 2007.
