PS3 Gets Firmware Update, Super Stardust, Gundam

Sony has released a new firmware update for its PlayStation 3, adding support for the H.264/MPEG-4 video codec, and has updated its PlayStation Store with Super Stardust HD and a demo of Koei and Namco Bandai's giant robot action crossover Dynasty Warriors: Gundam. The new 1.82 firmware is the first to support AVC High Profile (H.264/MPEG-4) format video, and also updates software compatibility with older PSone and PlayStation 2 titles. Other than the firmware, the PlayStation Store has now been updated to include developer Housemarque's 3D update to the classic Amiga shooter, Super Stardust HD (pictured), and a demo Namco Bandai and Koei's giant robot brawler crossover Dynasty Warriors: Gundam, which since its release in Japan, has gone on to be one of the region's top sellers for the console. Also added are a number of movie trailers, and, notably the newly released second trailer for Rockstar's forthcoming Grand Theft Auto IV, entitled Looking For That Special Someone. All updates are currently available on the U.S. PlayStation Store, with Super Stardust HD priced at $7.99.
