The Nintendo DS has regained the lead on the all-platform weekly Japanese hardware unit sales chart, following a week where two popular games drove PSP and PlayStation 3 sales to the top. Tracking firm Media Create revealed Friday that PSP sales, including the slow-selling PSP Go, were 31,105 units for the week ended August 8, down from the previous week's 49,380. PS3 sales were down to 28,630 units week-on-week from 45,224. The drop in sales came following a sales spike driven by the launch of Hatsune Miku: Project Diva 2 on PSP, and Sengoku Basara 3 on PS3. Both titles sold over 240,000 units, apparently driving uptake of their respective hardware. Sales of the Nintendo DS line -- Nintendo DSi LL, DSi and DS Lite -- were 43,708 units for the week ended August 8, down from 45,128 units the week prior, but still enough to recapture the top position. Nintendo Wii sales were also down to 18,238 from the previous week's 20,038. Below are the full sales rankings from Media Create for the week ended August 8, 2010. (The second chart lumps together sales of all models in a given line of hardware.)
