Publishers, Retailers Recognized At 2010 GamePlan Summit

Last week, trade group the Entertainment Merchants Association recognized publishers and retailers that made "significant contributions" to the game industry, with Activision and GameStop among the winners.

Last week, trade group the Entertainment Merchants Association recognized publishers and retailers that made "significant contributions" to the game industry, with Activision and GameStop among the winners. At the inaugural Chicago-based GamePlan Summit, organizers with the non-profit EMA said Activision earned the most awards at the event, including Best Packaging, Best Marketing Campaign and Best Use of Social Networks for November 2009's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. The game has sold over 20 million units since its launch. Leading video game specialty retailer GameStop won the "Best Game Department" and "Best Retail Promotion and Marketing" awards at the summit. EMA CEO Bo Andersen said, "Even the most compelling games need the support of great packaging, advertising, marketing, and execution at retail." Games released during July 2009 to August 2010 were eligible for the awards, with winners voted by EMA's Game Retailing Council and EMA member retailers, vendors, publishers.
