The organizers of the 2006 Independent Games Festival have released a statement reminding interested parties that the main IGF competition has a rapidly approaching entry deadline of September 6, 2005. The main IGF competition, which has awarded prizes in the past to games including Wik & The Fable Of Souls, Alien Hominid, Oasis, and Gish, sports a total prize pool of $35,000 this year, including a biggest-ever $20,000 Seumas McNally Grand Prize for the best independent game. In addition, the competition, for which winners will be revealed at the 2006 Game Developers Conference in San Jose next March, will hand out individual $2,500 prizes for Innovation In Visual Art, Innovation In Audio, Innovation In Game Design, Technical Excellence, and an Audience Award. In addition, for the first time, the IGF is featuring a Best Web Browser Game award - entrants in this category will also be eligible to win any of the other prizes, including the Grand Prize. More information on the awards, rules, and entry process is available on the official Independent Games Festival website, and the deadlines for the other two parts of the IGF are, respectively, October 10 for the new modding competition, and November 15 for the Student Showcase competition.
