Take-Two publishing label Rockstar Games has announced that it has teamed up with prominent music producer Timbaland to create music creation software Beaterator for PSP, created by Rockstar Leeds and available this summer. The application, according to Rockstar, "...is both a powerful music mixer with robust beatmaking features, as well as a... collection of original music and rhythm games and challenge modes", thus blending both music creation software and game in the same package for Sony's portable. It continues a tradition of portable music-making game software most recently upheld with 'homebrew' Game Boy music software such as Little Sound DJ or commercial applications such as Pocket Music. Beaterator originally debuted as a Web application on Rockstar's website, and included loops from artists such as Juan Atkins, Steinski, and King Britt at the time of its 2005 release. "Music has always been a hugely important part of everything we do here," said Sam Houser, Founder and Executive Producer of Rockstar Games. "Two years ago, we launched a web-based version of Beaterator on our own website and people really embraced it. That inspired us to build and create something very interactive and unique. Having Timbaland involved in the game is a real honor and only adds to our excitement about the title."
