Today's round-up includes news of the DigitalLive 2006 Pro-Am Video Game Tournament, Skreem Entertainment acquiring Korean mobile firm Weaver Interactive, and ALONG Mobile's reactions to the recent 4th Annual China Digital Entertainment Conference in Shanghai, as well as the latest GameSetWatch posts, product news, and Gamasutra job postings. - Ziff Davis Media, organizers of the annual DigitalLife technology event, today announced details of its 2006 Pro-Am Video Game Tournament. The event, which will again be produced by gaming tournament organization the Global Gaming League, will feature online qualifying rounds for the opportunity to appear in person and compete for up to $100,000 in cash and prizes at the DigitalLife consumer electronics event held October 12-15, 2006 at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York City. The competition will feature a five against five Counter-Strike 1.6 tournament, a multi-player F.E.A.R. tournament, and single player tournaments for Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne and Quake 4. Registration for all tournaments is now open on the DigitalLife website until August 20, and on-line qualifiers are expected to commence August 23, 2006. - Florida-based music and video entertainment content provider Skreem Entertainment Corporation announced that it has signed a letter of intent to acquire Korean mobile content and online game developer Weaver Interactive. Weaver launched Samgukji in March 2005, and its games are based on the well-known Chinese historic figures in the era of the Three Kingdoms. Weaver's growth plan is to team with local game publishers in each target market, and deliver a commercial launch for specific markets within ninety days. Charles Camorata, Skreem President, said, "We will be able to help Weaver become a worldwide brand by providing them capital, marketing strategies, the ability to acquire competitors and entrance into the European and American markets." - Chinese mobile firm ALONG Mobile Technologies has noted that is showcased a number of the its products at the recent 4th Annual China Digital Entertainment Expo & Conference (ChinaJoy), which took place at Shanghai's New International Exhibition Center (and was covered in depth by Gamasutra). Mr. Li Jianwei, the CEO of ALONG Mobile Technologies Inc., commented that attending ChinaJoy was a very effective way to show both competitive game providers and the market that ALONG has proved its ability to be the first mobile phone service provider to give its customers 3D games in China. ALONG brought seven new mobile games to the show, including the display of its new 3D games library with such games as 3D Racing Car, interactive mobile game The Doggy, Face Jigsaw, among others. - The latest updates on Gamasutra sister weblog GameSetWatch include a look at role-playing games in Second Life, a look back at the “bizarre” 16-bit Japanese shooter Cho Aniki , and an upcoming series of shorts titled "The Legend of Zelda's Relationships". - Also updated today: Gamasutra product news on an update to video game delivery software igLoader, plus the latest Gamasutra job postings, featuring openings from Algoma University College, Gobal VR, MumboJumbo, SouthPeak Interactive, The Art Institute of California, TSC Management Services Group, and Ubisoft.
