Round-Up: DS Trojan, More GBA Dogz, Pokémon Micro

Today's round-up includes news on a Nintendo DS trojan, yet more lovable virtual dogs for portable systems, and the latest Japanese special edition of Nintendo's new Game Boy Micro, as well as today's Gamasutra product news and job postings. - Only a few days after the first Trojan malware hit the PlayStation Portable, a similar Trojan has cropped up on the Nintendo DS. Like the PSP Trojan, the DS bug will only affect those attempting to download and install unauthorized, unsigned software on the system, and cannot infect systems which have not been tampered with. The DS Trojan apparently comes in the disguise of an image viewer for the system. Given that the malware can only work on altered systems, there will likely be no official response or fix from Nintendo for the Trojan. - O~3 Entertainment is no longer the sole virtual pet vendor for the Game Boy Advance: its Pocket Dogs now has competition in the form of Dogz, a dog simulator for GBA. Ubisoft is aiming to beat O~3 to retail, claiming to be the "first puppy simulation game available for Game Boy Advance owners," to capitalize on the popularity of Nintendogs for the Nintendo DS. "We are confident that players will enjoy caring for and watching their puppies grow," said Ubisoft VP of marketing Tony Kee, "and we have a significant television campaign in place to get the word out about this extremely fun and rewarding game." - Though the Game Boy Micro is only weeks old, Nintendo has already announced the second special-edition version of the portable system in Japan. After the success of the Famicom-styled GB Micro, Nintendo will release a Pokémon-themed system with a red body and black faceplate, featuring the ever-popular Pikachu silhouetted in white.
