Today's Gamasutra round-up includes news of Blazing Angels Squadrons of WWII announced for the PlayStation 3 launch, Playlogic Entertainment's second quarter results, and Jack Thompson's request to get Bully early, as well as the latest GameSetWatch posts, Serious Games Source news, and Gamasutra job postings. - Today Ubisoft announced that Blazing Angels Squadrons of WWII, released previously for the Xbox 360, as well as the Xbox and PC, will be a launch title for the upcoming PlayStation 3 console. In addition, the company added that the game has been redesigned so that it will take advantage of the PlayStation 3's tilt sensitive controller, which was first unveiled in May at E3. New missions will also be introduced and the game will include a new 16-player multiplayer mode. The company also saw a higher net loss for the six months ended June, 2006, during which it reported a loss of $3.9 million compared to $1.6 million in the prior year. Playlogic noted the added loss was mainly due to “higher selling, marketing, general and administrative expenses and the investments made in the development of games.” Looking forward, the company has several titles scheduled to launch during the third quarter, including Age of Pirates: Caribbean Tales for the PC on September 1, 2006 in Europe and September 5, 2006 in the US and Canada . Other releases include multiplatform titles World Racing 2, Knights of the Temple 2, and Gene Troopers, as well as the Xbox shooter Xyanide. In the fourth quarter, Playlogic will ship Ancient Wars: Sparta and Infernal for the PC. - A news story from consumer site GameSpot indicates that infamous anti-game lawyer Jack Thompson has issued a formal request to both retail chain Wal-Mart and Take-Two to provide him with an advance copy of the upcoming PlayStation 2-exclusive Bully, which was recently confirmed as scheduled to ship in October. Wal-Mart is being singled out by Thompson, according to the report, because it is currently accepting pre-orders for the game without age verification. Thompson indicated that he wishes to have "an independent third party" play the game in order to decide if the game should be considered “a public nuisance” within the state of Florida. "If Bully is indeed safe for children's play, then petitioner will be the first to say so," Thompson said. "If it is not, then not only will the underlying action be brought sounding in Florida nuisance law, but also possibly and most likely in fraud as well."
