Round-Up: Kameo Film, Midway & TNA, Popular Science Awards

Today's round-up includes news on a possible Kameo CG movie, a Midway deal that'll bring us new licensed wrestling titles in 2007, and Popular Science's nods to the PSP and Xbox 360, as well as today's product news and Gamasutra job postings. - Maxmedia, an animation production company, has picked up the film rights to Rare's Kameo: Elements of Power, the company's platformer scheduled to be released by Microsoft at the launch of the Xbox 360. Sunmin Park, writer and director of Wonderful Days (released in the US as Sky Blue), will write and direct the adaptation of the game, which will be similarly animated. No release date has been announced, but Maxmedia intends to begin production in 2006. - Midway has acquired the exclusive rights to Total Nonstop Action Wrestling, one of the larger competitors to World Wrestling Entertainment. The terms of the deal allows Midway to produce videogames for consoles, handheld systems, and PC based on the TNA franchise and wrestlers. The first game to be developed under the deal is scheduled for release in 2007. "We are very pleased to be working with TNA and look forward to leveraging our expertise in the fighting game genre to create the most compelling wrestling experience yet," said Midway CEO David F. Zucker. - Popular Science magazine gave two of its Best of What's New awards to gaming in its annual issue devoted to the topic. The awards are given in 12 categories: Gadgets and Home Entertainment, the two gaming-related ones, as well as Automotive, Tech, Aviation & Space, Cars, Computing, Engineering, General Innovation, Home Tech, Personal Health, and Photography and Recreation. The Gadgets award went to Sony's PlayStation Portable, while the Home Entertainment prize went to Microsoft's Xbox 360.
