Today's round-up includes news on initial sales for EA's latest Madden title, as well a publisher for the much-delayed State Of Emergency 2, and some help for Perpetual Entertainment on the Star Trek MMO, as well as the latest product news, Letter To The Editor, and Gamasutra job postings. - Electronic Arts has announced that its newest football game, Madden NFL 2006, has broken sales records for the series and moved 1.7 million copies across all platforms in its first week. "Gamers were demanding the best Madden NFL Football ever this year and the response at retail indicates that we delivered the game that everyone wanted," said EA Vice President of Marketing Todd Sitrin. "Consumers have voted with their dollars, and the vote is in -- this is the best version of Madden NFL Football ever." The strong performance of the game in its first week may have justified Electronic Arts' decision in December 2004 to secure the exclusive NFL license. - PlayLogic has picked up the action sequel State of Emergency 2, the project that has now changed hands in both development and publishing. After VIS Interactive closed its doors earlier this year, DC Studios won the rights to the unfinished game and announced their intention to complete it for an unknown publisher. Now PlayLogic has announced its intention to publish the sequel, following on from Rockstar Games, who published the first title, and release SOE2 worldwide in the fourth quarter for PlayStation 2. - Michael Okuda, designer of the Star Trek LCARS graphic user interface, has been brought aboard Perpetual Entertainment's Star Trek Online project as a design consultant for the online title. Okuda will adapt the game's interface to match his famous designs for the series, as well as provide assistance with designing aspects of the game to match a projected future for the Star Trek universe. “They are evolving the look of Star Trek into the future," said Okuda, "and I am excited to be a part of it. I am confident Star Trek fans will be pleased with where Perpetual is going with the franchise.” - Also updated today: product news including a new licensor for Exit Games' mobile middleware, as well as the latest Letter to the Editor on the big story debate, and the latest Gamasutra job postings from companies including Blue Fang Games, Bottle Rocket Entertainment, Electronic Arts Tiburon, Factor 5, Pseudo Interactive, and Visual Concepts.
