Round-Up: Monster Game, New Sorcerer, Gaming Future DVD

Today's round-up includes news on a THQ game license for a spooky Spielberg-produced movie, a resurrection for a classic PC adventure title, thanks to German firm Silver Style Entertainment, and a DVD talking about the future of gaming, as well as the latest Gamasutra job postings. - THQ has obtained the license to produce games based on Monster House, a 3D film to be released next summer. Directed by Gil Kenan and produced by Stephen Spielberg and Robert Zemeckis, the movie deals with a haunted house eating trick-or-treaters on Halloween night. The film is set to be presented in a new type of 3D projection developed by Real D, debuting specially for the movie. "We look forward to creating a fun and humorous game that will enable the moviegoers to extend their experience beyond the movie theater," said THQ VP of licensing Germaine Gioia. - Silver Style Entertainment is developing a new entry in the Simon the Sorcerer series, the fourth adventure game in the series. Simon the Sorcerer 4 will take the series into 3D, though new owners Silver Style are promising to keep the game true to its adventure roots. In an email to fansite AdventureDot, Carsten Strehse of Silver Style said that "The game will be completely in 3D, but without any action parts. StS4 will be a classical adventure like Simon 1+2 or Monkey Island. Mike Woodroffe will give input regarding the story and will be informed about the whole development process." The game is scheduled for release in the third quarter of 2006, with plans for further sequels to follow. - United Games Media has released a DVD focusing on the future of gaming, called "What's Next?: For Computer and Videogames." The publisher announced the full list of speakers interviewed for the feature, which numbers over 50 industry participants. Some of those included in the main feature are Sony Europe president Chris Deering, ESA president Doug Lowenstein, Nintendo UK general manager David Yarnton, and famed UK developer Matthew Smith. The film, which includes bonus interviews on smaller featurettes included in the 2-disc set, is available for UKP5.99 ($10.35 USD) from the publisher. Though the DVD is region 0, the video formatting is PAL, which means North American viewers will be unable to watch it without a suitable NTSC-converting all-region player. - Also updated today: the latest Gamasutra job postings, including positions from Blue Fang Games, Bungie Studios, Naked Sky Entertainment, and Technicolor Interactive Services.
