Today's round-up includes news of the latest title in Capcom's popular Resident Evil franchise, as well as information on an alliance between the NPD and Chart-Track and the cancellation of Sony's unlicensed football title Road to Sunday, as well as the latest product news and today's Gamasutra industry job postings. - Japanese magazine Weekly Famitsu's latest issue reveals an announcement for the latest edition of Capcom's survival horror franchise, Resident Evil 5, complete with screenshots. The game will be for next-generation platforms PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, though apparently not for the Nintendo Revolution. Screenshots indicate that the game will again feature the over-the-shoulder camera view and general gameplay style of Resident Evil 4. The accompanying text names Jun Takeuchi, who previously worked on the first two Resident Evil games, as the game's director, in place of series creator Shinji Mikami. - The NPD Group, provider of the monthly TRSTS game sales data reports in the U.S., has partnered with Chart-Track Limited to provide more comprehensive charts. Chart-Track is one of the leading sales trackers in the U.K.; its input will be used to help the NPD better compare sales between the two territories. "It's becoming progressively more important to understand the sales performance of gaming products on an international scale and this is an excellent step towards that goal," said NPD President Esther Han. - Following Electronic Arts' exclusive deal with the NFL for football video games, one of the more creative workarounds was Sony's Road to Sunday, a game as much about the personal dramas behind (fictional) individual players as about the sport itself. However, consumer site IGN has confirmed that the title has been canceled. According to a Sony representative, "Road to Sunday just didn't measure up to our first party standards in terms of quality." Red Zone Interactive, the game's developer, has not announced a new project in its stead. - Also updated today: product news including middleware developer Havok's adoption of the Vormetric CoreGuard Security System for collaborative data protection, as well as the launch of the Hyperfocal Skies 2 texture library, and the latest game industry jobs, including positions at Big Huge Games, BottleRocket Entertainment Inc, Firefly Studios, Frog City, KingsIsle Entertainment, and Rainbow Studios.
