Today's round-up includes news of the return of Utah's “games as porn” bill, a delay in what online services the Wii will have available at launch, and the lines for the PlayStation 3, as well as the latest Game Career Guide updates, Serious Games Source posts, GameSetWatch posts and Gamasutra job postings. - Politically minded game blog GamePolitics is reporting that the so-called “games as porn” bill has been given new life in the state of Utah. The bill was introduced and later dropped by the Utah State Senate earlier this year in March. The newly revived bill, which is sponsored by Rep. Scott Wyatt, aims to equate mature rated video games with pornography, thus preventing said games from being sold to minors. Regarding the bill's resurrection the original submitter Republican David Hogue noted: “Somewhere we have to stand up as citizens and parents and legislators and say, ‘That’s enough.’ I very seriously think that we need to push this forward and find if we’re going to have a challenge or not and have the attorney general fight those battles.” Currently the bill sits on the 2007 legislative calendar, though according to the report Wyatt has expressed some concern at the bill failing in court and if this appear to be a likely outcome he will withdraw the legislation. - While Nintendo is set to launch its anticipated Wii console platform in North America on November 19, the company today confirmed that some of its anticipated features will not be live on day one. While the Wii's shopping channel, through which players will be able to purchase and download games and other items using purchasable Wii Points, several of the console's other previously announced channels, including the news and weather channels, will remain inactive for a period of time following the console's launch. The weather channel is expected to now debut on December 20, while the news channel is now scheduled for January 27, 2007. In addition, while it was previously announced that Wii users would be able to download the service's Opera web browser, the company noted today that information concerning the browser's availability “will be released in the coming weeks.” - Online reports, including those from major consumer website GameSpot, have indicated that the lines of early PlayStation 3 adopters currently queuing in front of retailers such as Best Buy and Circuit City are quickly approaching critical mass. First hand accounts of “line jumping” and fights breaking out have been reported as people continue to wait, some already for multiple days. Sony officials have noted that the company expects to have 400,000 of the consoles available for purchase on day one, with many retailers across the country expected to hold midnight openings.
