Saling The World: Pro Evolution Pets: Ultimate Alliance

Gamasutra's weekly column, "Saling The World", covers the top five sellers for every available platform in the United States, Japan, and Europe, providing an important update of sales patterns worldwide. This week's charts, with data taken from October 26th, 2006, feature ultimate alliances, simulated pets, and evolutionary soccer. Data for "Saling The World" comes courtesy of the public sales information on Amazon.com, Amazon.co.uk, and Amazon.co.jp, with sales split out for each platform and territory, and pre-orders disregarded. This results in a true sense of what games are selling worldwide on the real-time updated service, as follows: Xbox 360 North America: 1. Marvel: Ultimate Alliance (Activision), 2. The recent releases Marvel: Ultimate Alliance and Pro Evolution Soccer 6 surge to the top of the Xbox 360 sales charts in the United States and Europe this week. Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Double Agent also continues to perform well in its second week of release in both regions, though sales for the Xbox 360 port seem to have tapered off slightly following last week's debut of PS2 and Xbox versions. PlayStation 2 North America: 1. Bully (Rockstar), 2. Madden NFL 07 (EA Sports), 3. Marvel: Ultimate Alliance (Activision), 4. LEGO Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy (LucasArts), 5. Justice League Heroes (Eidos). Japan: 1. Utawarerumono (Aqua Plus), 2. Ryuu ga Gotoku (Sega), 3. Mermaid Prism (D3 Publisher), 4. Dragon Ball Z Sparking! NEO (Bandai), 5. God of War (Capcom). UK: 1. While Bully continues to see top sales for the PS2 in the United States, its European counterpart Canis Canem Edit is bested in its first week of release by Konami's Pro Evolution Soccer 6. As the latest entry in the popular Winning Eleven series, Pro Evolution Soccer 6 also sees big sales on the Xbox 360 and PC this week, beating out former best-selling soccer sim FIFA 07 on all three platforms. Guild Wars Nightfall (NCsoft). In a strange coincidence, Guild Wars Nightfall somehow manages to place fifth in PC software sales for all regions in the week following its release. This indicates a degree of worldwide popularity for the title, though it's currently not enough to overpower established sales leaders like The Sims 2: Pets, Football Manager 2007, and Microsoft Flight Simulator X. Nintendo DS North America: 1. Brain Age (Nintendo), 2. New Super Mario Bros. (Nintendo), 3. Nintendogs: Lab & Friends (Nintendo), 4. Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Blue Rescue Team (Nintendo), 5. The list of top DS sellers in Japan is particularly long-winded this week, thanks mostly in part to the recent release and success of Otona no Joushikiryoku Training DS. Expect to see this unwieldy title in Japan's top five for many weeks to come -- like the popular Brain Age series, the Nintendo-published Otona no Joushikiryoku Training DS is predicted to sell big across a number of demographics. PlayStation Portable North America: 1. Medal of Honor Heroes (EA Games), 2. Madden NFL 07 (EA Sports), 3. LEGO Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy (LucasArts), 4. After sitting at first place in PSP software sales in the U.S. for the last several weeks, Madden NFL 07 is finally bumped to second place this week by the just-released Medal of Honor Heroes. Ace Combat X: Skies of Deception is another strong seller for the PSP, particularly so in Japan, where it outsold all competing titles on the first day of its release. Game Boy Advance North America: 1. Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team (Nintendo), 2. Pokémon Emerald Version (Nintendo), 3. Pokémon FireRed Version (Nintendo), 4. Rhythm Tengoku falls to fifth place this week in Japanese GBA software sales, after consistently remaining at the top of the list or in second place for more than two months. No such surprises can be found in other regions, where Pokémon and Cars continue to be the portable's best-selling franchises. Xbox North America: 1. While PS2 owners may prefer Marvel: Ultimate Alliance over Justice League Heroes if this week's sales charts are to be believed, the inverse appears to be true for Xbox owners in the United States. Both titles are remarkably close in sales numbers, however, and it should be interesting to see if the coming weeks bring similar results. GameCube North America: 1. LEGO Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy (LucasArts), 2. LEGO Star Wars (Eidos), 3. Super Mario Sunshine (Nintendo), 4. Madden NFL 07 (EA Sports), 5. Mario Kart: Double Dash!! (Nintendo). Japan: 1. Phantasy Star Online Episode I & II Plus (Sega), 2. Bokujou Monogatari: Shiawase no Uta for World (Marvelous), 3. Pokémon XD: Yami no Kaze Dark Lugia (Nintendo), 4. Pokémon Colosseum (Nintendo), 5. Pokémon Box: Ruby & Sapphire (Nintendo). UK: 1. FIFA 07 (EA Sports), 2. LEGO Star Wars (Eidos), 3. Cars (THQ), 4. Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness (Nintendo), 5. The Legend of Spyro: A New Beginning (Vivendi). Oddly, even new releases like The Legend of Spyro: A New Beginning don't appear to make much of a dent in the GameCube's worldwide sales charts at this point in the console's lifespan. While the future could tell a different story, it appears as though the platform will continue to see its biggest sales numbers in select titles like LEGO Star Wars II, Phantasy Star Online Episode I & II Plus, and FIFA 07 in its twilight months.
