Gamasutra's weekly column, "Saling The World", covers the top five sellers for every available platform in the United States, Japan, and Europe, providing an important update of sales patterns worldwide. This week's charts, with data taken from March 13th, 2008, see North American sales dominated by Super Smash Bros. Brawl, which debuts as this week's top seller across all platforms. Data for "Saling The World" comes courtesy of the public sales information on Amazon.com, Amazon.co.uk, and Amazon.co.jp, with sales split out for each platform and territory, and pre-orders disregarded. This results in a true sense of what games are selling worldwide on the real-time updated service, as follows: Nintendo Wii North America: 1. Super Smash Bros. Brawl (Nintendo), 2. Wii Play (Nintendo), 3. Super Mario Galaxy (Nintendo), 4. Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock Bundle (Activision), 5. Carnival Games (Global Star). Japan: 1. Wii Fit (Nintendo), 2. Dairantou Smash Brothers X (Nintendo), 3. Metroid Prime 3: Corruption (Nintendo), 4. Wii Sports (Nintendo), 5. Family Ski (Namco). UK: 1. Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games (Sega), 2. Carnival Funfair Games (2K Games), 3. Big Brain Academy for Wii (Nintendo), 4. Tiger Woods PGA Tour 08 (EA Sports), 5. Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock Bundle (Activision). Super Smash Bros. Brawl sweeps Amazon's multiplatform sales results in its North American debut week, premiering as the week's top seller among all current and upcoming releases. Given its high level of prerelease demand and its impressive sales in Japan thus far, Brawl stands likely to reign over the Wii charts for the next several weeks, and could remain North America's multiplatform sales champion for some time to come. Japan, meanwhile, sees Nintendo's Wii Fit topping weekly sales once again, while the recent Metroid Prime 3 hangs on at third place. Xbox 360 North America: 1. Army of Two (EA Games), 2. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (Activision), 3. Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock Bundle (Activision), 4. Rock Band Special Edition (MTV Games), 5. Halo 3 (Microsoft). Japan: 1. Skate (EA Games), 2. The Idolm@ster: Live for You! (Namco), 3. BioShock (Spike), 4. The Idolm@ster -- Xbox 360 Platinum Collection (Namco), 5. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (Activision). UK: 1. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (Activision), 2. Bully: Scholarship Edition (Rockstar), 3. Frontlines: Fuel of War -- Special Edition (THQ), 4. Halo 3 (Microsoft), 5. Army of Two (EA Games). Army of Two remains the Xbox 360's biggest selling software title in North America for the second week in a row, maintaining its sales momentum after a successful debut last week. Other recent debuts aren't as lucky. Despite a strong showing last week, Major League Baseball 2K8 falls out of the top five in its second week on store shelves. Bully: Scholarship Edition falls even further in Amazon's North American sales results after a fourth-place debut last week, likely due in part to the discovery of major bugs in the title soon after its release. The title continues to perform well in the UK for the time being, however. PlayStation 3 North America: 1. The Eye of Judgment (SCEA), 2. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (Activision), 3. MLB 08: The Show (SCEA), 4. Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 (Konami), 5. Army of Two (EA Games). Japan: 1. Ryu ga Gotoku Kenzan! (Sega), 2. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (Activision), 3. Devil May Cry 4 (Capcom), 4. Winning Post 7: Maximum 2008 (Koei), 5. Makai Senki Disgaea 3 -- First Print Limited Edition (Nippon Ichi). UK: 1. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (Activision), 2. Burnout Paradise (EA Games), 3. Assassin's Creed (Ubisoft), 4. Formula One Championship Edition (SCEE), 5. Resistance: Fall of Man (SCEE). Sony's camera-bundled card battler The Eye of Judgment finds itself back at the top of Amazon's PS3 sales results this week after a long absence from the top five. Sales for the title saw a recent spike, thanks to an Amazon-sponsored drop in price for the bundle. Meanwhile, MLB 08: The Show remains a strong seller on the PlayStation 3, outselling its rival Major League Baseball 2K8 by a significant margin. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare eclipses its sales in this week's results, however, while Konami's recently released Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 emerges as a strong chart competitor at fourth place. PlayStation 2 North America: 1. Rock Band (MTV Games), 2. Rock Band Special Edition (MTV Games), 3. Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock Bundle (Activision), 4. MLB 08: The Show (SCEA), 5. Guitar Hero II Bundle (Activision). Japan: 1. Suzumiya Haruhi no Tomadoi -- Limited Edition (Banpresto), 2. Lucky * Star -- DX Pack (Kadokawa Shoten), 3. 12Riven: The Psi-Climinal of Integral -- Soundtrack Edition (CyberFront), 4. Gundam Musou Special (Bandai), 5. 12Riven: The Psi-Climinal of Integral (CyberFront). UK: 1. Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock Bundle (Activision), 2. Transformers: The Game (Activision), 3. FIFA 08 (EA Sports), 4. SingStar (SCEE), 5. WWE SmackDown! vs. RAW 2008 (THQ). The non-bundled version of Rock Band sees a sales boost on the PlayStation 2 this week thanks to a "Deal of the Day" promotional discount at Amazon. The accessory-bundled Special Edition also remains a top seller, as does Guitar Hero III. Silent Hill Origins falls out of the top five after a promising debut last week, as MLB 08 slides to fourth place. A discounted limited edition of Suzumiya Haruhi no Tomadoi leads Japan's chart, meanwhile, as both the regular and soundtrack-bundled versions of CyberFront's 12Riven: The Psi-Climinal of Integral make a chart impression in their first week of release. PC North America: 1. The Sims 2: FreeTime (EA Games), 2. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (Activision), 3. Sins of a Solar Empire (Stardock), 4. Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War -- Soulstorm (THQ), 5. The Sims 2 Deluxe (EA Games). Japan: 1. Clannad Full Voice (Key), 2. The Sims 2: FreeTime! Data Set (EA Games), 3. Final Fantasy XI: Altana no Kamihei (Square Enix), 4. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (Activision), 5. RPG Tsukuru VX (Enterbrain). UK: 1. Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War -- Soulstorm (THQ), 2. The Sims 2: FreeTime (EA Games), 3. The Sims 2 (EA Games), 4. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (Activision), 5. Crysis (EA Games). The Sims 2: FreeTime finds little trouble in keeping its chart lead for the third week in a row since its release, as Call of Duty 4 and Sins of a Solar Empire follow close behind at second and third place. The recent Soulstorm expansion pack for Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War falls to fourth in North American PC sales after a second-place debut last week (though its UK performance sees it at the top of regional sales), while in Japan, Clannad Full Voice maintains its lead in the face of recent competition from The Sims 2: FreeTime. Nintendo DS North America: 1. Professor Layton and the Curious Village (Nintendo), 2. Mario Party DS (Nintendo), 3. Brain Age (Nintendo), 4. New Super Mario Bros. (Nintendo), 5. Brain Age 2 (Nintendo). Japan: 1. DS Bimoji Training (Nintendo), 2. Hayate no Gotoku! Ojousama Produce Daisakusen Boku Iro ni Somare! Oyashiki-Hen (Konami), 3. Hayate no Gotoku! Ojousama Produce Daisakusen Boku Iro ni Somare! Gakkou-Hen (Konami), 4. Sekaiju no Meikyuu 2: Shoou no Seihai -- Limited Edition (Atlus), 5. Duel Love: Koisuru Otome wa Shouri no Megami (Namco). UK: 1. Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games (Sega), 2. Dr. Kawashima's Brain Training (Nintendo), 3. Professor Kageyama's Maths Training (Nintendo), 4. More Brain Training (Nintendo), 5. Cooking Mama (505 Games). Though it seemed as if Professor Layton and the Curious Village was due for a slow and steady drop out of the top five after falling to second place in North American DS sales last week, the title regains its sales strength for a first-place finish in this week's results. Mario Party DS also makes a surprise return to the charts this week, with a recent restock and a small discount in price taking it up to second place. In Japan, AQ Interactive's recently announced synthesizer software title KORG DS-10 Synthesizer meets with initial presales that outperform the sales of all available software in the region, while the letter-writing coach title DS Bimoji Training takes top honors among software currently on store shelves. PlayStation Portable North America: 1. God of War: Chains of Olympus (SCEA), 2. Patapon (SCEA), 3. Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops (Konami), 4. Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories (Rockstar), 5. Star Wars Battlefront II (LucasArts). Japan: 1. MyStylist -- Camera Bundle (SCEI), 2. Monster Hunter Portable 2nd (Capcom), 3. Musou Orochi (Koei), 4. Maplus: Portable Navi 2 (Edia), 5. Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII (Square Enix). UK: 1. Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 (Konami), 2. Patapon (SCEE), 3. Call of Duty: Roads to Victory (Activision), 4. The Simpsons Game (EA Games), 5. Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories (Rockstar). Sony's recent releases Patapon and God of War: Chains of Olympus top PSP sales in the United States this week. Patapon jumps up to second place after finishing third last week, and could remain in the top five for the next several weeks if its recent positive critical buzz and word-of-mouth continue to drive sales.
