Sega has announced Captain America: Super Soldier, a new third-person action adventure title based on Marvel's patriotic super-hero, releasing for all major consoles next year. Created by Joe Simon and Jack Kirby in 1941, Captain America has been a staple character in Marvel Comics' lineup since. More than 200 million Captain America issues have been sold in 75 countries, and a movie based on the character is scheduled to hit theaters next July. Slated for Xbox 360, PS3, PSP, Wii, and Nintendo DS, Super Soldier is set during World War II and has players taking control of Captain America as he faces against the Iron Cross, Hydra, and other villainous groups serving the hero's Nazi nemesis the Red Skull. The Next Level Games-developed (Punch Out!!) title features an "athletic combat system", platforming, and shield actions that allow players to take out multiple enemies at once, deflect incoming fire at enemies, solve puzzles, and scale walls in "a massive castle turned military installation". Comic writer and screenwriter Christos Gage has produced an original story for Super Soldier. He's previously worked on various Marvel books like Siege: Captain America, Iron Man, X-Men, Spider-Man. Gage has written Super Soldier's story so that its setting exists in the same world as the upcoming Captain America film. "Videogame players the world over can now become Marvel’s iconic Super Hero Captain America," says Sega Europe/America's Marketing SVP Gary Knight. "Working closely with Marvel ensures we’re delivering the calibre product that gamers and comic fans deserve and it’s a partnership we’re proud of here at SEGA."
