The 2005 Serious Games Summit, to take place from October 31st to November 1st, 2005, at the Crystal Gateway Marriott in Arlington, Virginia, has announced its call for submissions for the event, asking for abstracts on possible 60-minute lecture, panel, roundtable, or poster session. The summit is the second annual serious games event from CMP, focusing on games created for purposes other than pure entertainment. Topics included will be advergaming, such as Flash-based games intended for commercial websites, or educational gaming, used in schools to supplement traditional curricula. The initial deadline for these abstracts to be submitted is July 1, 2005, and highlighted topics that the organizers would especially like to see discussed include 'serious game design', assessment & results, business & deals, learning & instructional theory, products within projects, and 'behind the game' sessions, although submissions from all branches of serious games are very welcome. [The Serious Games Summit is produced by CMP Game Group, which also runs Game Developers Conference, as well as GDC Europe, Game Developer magazine and Gamasutra.com.]
