The Serious Games Summit DC 2005, a conference to be held this October in Washington D.C. which focuses on games created for purposes other than pure entertainment, including titles created for training, health, government, military, and educational use, has announced its keynote speakers for the 2005 event. Currently, two keynote addresses are scheduled. On Monday October 31st 2005 from 8:30-9:30 AM, Dr. Peter Parla, director for interactive research at the Center for Naval Analyses, will be paired with BreakAway Games CEO Douglas Whatley for a discussion on "What's So Serious About Game Design? The Art or the Science?" According to the keynote details, the session is "designed to explore new ways of applying fundamental concepts about wargame design to extract science from the art of wargame design." On Tuesday, also from 8:30-9:30 AM, Dr. Dave Warner, director of the Institute for Interventional Informatics will give a talk titled "Riding the Cutting Edge of Distributed Intelligence", in which the veteran will be "sharing his experiences and showing us some of the work he has done in next-generation human computer interfaces, systems, and cognition that have at times involved game systems." In addition to the keynotes, the SGSDC 2005 has 62 other panels lined up on various tracks. The conference will be held from October 31st to November 1st, in Washington, D.C., at the Crystal Gateway Marriott. Attendees can register via the conference website.
