Emergent has announced today that New Zealand based Sidhe Interactive (Gripshift, Jackass: The Game) has chosen Emergent's Gamebryo engine for yet unspecified multiplatform titles, including games for the Nintendo Wii. Sidhe began working with a Gamebryo evaluation unit in May and is now using the middleware in a live development environment. According to the company, other developments using Gamebryo -- possibly including downloadable content on next generation platforms -- are scheduled to begin "soon". Earlier this year, it was announced that Sidhe was handling the PSP and PS2 versions of Jackass: The Game, both expected to be released to retail this week. Recently, Sidhe also announced that it was partnering with Warner Bros. for a game based on the Wachowski Brothers' forthcoming movie adaptation of the Speed Racer animated series, slated for the PS2 and Wii, its first announced game for Nintendo's console. Emergent first announced Wii support for its Gamebryo engine earlier this month, enabling the development of titles for Nintendo's console using an adapted version of the engine used for Bethesda's Oblivion and EA's upcoming Warhammer Online. Said Sidhe technical director Tyrone McAuley, "Using Gamebryo complements our own investment in scalable, reusable, cross platform technology. Because it integrates easily with our proprietary engine and graphics solutions, we have greater flexibility and more options in how to approach development for a range of titles. Gamebryo is very clean technology that delivers cross-platform tools for next generation consoles without requiring a significant learning curve."
