Softimage has announced a free, specialized version of SoftImage XSI for use by game players in customizing the upcoming Half-Life 2 game. To be previewed at GDC beginning Wednesday, SoftImage XSI EXP will allow gamers to create and modify characters, props, and scenery for Half-Life 2 MODs and other Valve Source engine-powered titles. SoftImage XSI EXP allows gamers to:

  • create characters and hair

  • mix and blend animations with a mxier

  • apply real-time shaders

The package will be available for download at www.softimage.com/HL2/, and on Wendesday, GDC attendees will be able to obtain a special, limited edition, pre-release CD of the program.
