In a reversal of trends of the previous year, it is Sony format games which dominate the Media Create Japanese sales charts this week, with not a single Nintendo format title in the top five. The charts are lead by Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G, which despite being only a standalone expansion to the last game has recorded an exceptionally high second week of sales with 488,000 units, for a lifetime total of over 1,350,000. Sales have been strong across the board this week, with the PlayStation 2 sequel to what is known in the West as Warriors Orochi recording 228,000 unit sales at number two. The third placed new entry was Star Ocean: Second Evolution, a remake of the original PSone role-playing game for the PSP, also performed well for Square Enix, with 91,000 units sold. New in at numbers four and five, is the PlayStation 2 and 3 versions of Konami’s Pro Baseball Spirits 5 with the PlayStation 2 version leading sales at 80,000 units to 60,000. The highest ranked Nintendo format title of the week is Pokemon Ranger: Batonnage at number six, which saw 58,000 unit sales in its third week for a lifetime total of 406,000. The remaining new entry in the top ten is Namco Bandai’s new Nintendo DS title featuring popular Japanese comedy double act Yoiko, which debuts at number eight with 39,000 units sold. Despite the success of PlayStation format titles this week still fully half of the top thirty is dominated by Nintendo DS titles, with five on the Wii, four on PSP and three each on PlayStation 2 and PlayStation 3.
