A new report has highlighted Sony's plans to expand its PlayStation presence in India as the country's gaming industry strengthens, reports online IT magazine ChannelTimes.com. According to the article, Atindrya Bose, manager of the Playstation business in India cited a growth rate for the country's gaming market of 78 percent by 2010. Added Bose, "Barely one percent of the country's gaming potential has been tapped. However, we are still at a very nascent stage, even though there is a lot of potential for the industry," he added. The article explains that Sony will select distribution partners in India's top 20 cities, choosing those with the strongest sales potential and specialization in entertainment products. Explained Bose, "We are looking forward to [having] a phase wise distribution pattern, and hence aiming to have around 3-4 quality product centers in these cities." Sony will reportedly organize promotional events targeting young people, surrounding the places they frequent. The article also claims that Sony will localize its international content for the Indian market.
