Sony To Release PlayStation Move Gun Peripheral Alongside Killzone 3

Sony is targeting core gamers by releasing a new machine gun-shaped controller attachment for the PlayStation Move alongside the February, 2011 release of Killzone 3.

Sony Computer Entertainment announced today they will be releasing a new machine gun-shaped controller attachment for the PlayStation Move alongside the February, 2011 release of Killzone 3. Dubbed the sharp shooter, the $39.99 device will include space to insert a PlayStation Move Wand Controller in the barrel and a Navigation Controller in the front gun handle, to facilitate easy access to the buttons. The sharp shooter itself also includes a trigger and a variety of side-mounted buttons that can be used to activate the connected Move controller, as well as an adjustable shoulder stock and Killzone 3 branding. “When coupled with stereoscopic 3D support, such as in Killzone 3, the PlayStation Move sharp shooter represents a new step toward the ultimate goal of any cutting-edge video game: placing players directly in the game," said SCEA Director for Hardware Marketing John Koller, in a statement. Sony previously released the pistol-shaped PlayStation Move Shooting Attachment for $20 in October, alongside the release of Move title The Shoot. Accessory makers including CTA Digital have introduced similar attachable accessories, shaped like guns and other in-game objects, for the PlayStation Move and for the Wii Remote before it. In 2007, Nintendo released the Wii Zapper, a vaguely gun-shaped Remote attachment designed to be fired from the waist. The unit saw relatively strong sales for an accessory, perhaps due to the inclusion of Zelda series spin-off Link's Crossbow Training. Sony has stressed the optional PlayStation Move support for Killzone 3 ever since the final hardware for the controller was shown at the 2010 Electronic Entertainment Expo. "We're going to be putting our best IP against PlayStation Move, which is different from our competition," SCEA Marketing Director Scott Steinberg told Gamasutra in a June interview. "It proves to retail and to our consumers how committed we are."
