Top-Grossing iTunes Apps: Modern Combat 2, Reckless Racing Report Big Sales

Apple's latest U.S. App Store game revenue charts see Modern Combat 2 and Angry Birds Halloween leading on the iPhone, while Reckless Racing HD emerges as atop the iPad charts.

[Every week, sister iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad site FingerGaming rounds up the top-grossing iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad applications, as current that day in the iTunes App Store, and this chart is now available on Gamasutra.] Apple's latest U.S. App Store game revenue charts see Modern Combat 2 and Angry Birds Halloween leading on the iPhone and iPod Touch, while Reckless Racing HD emerges atop the iPad charts. These charts allow end users to see who is making the most money on the App Store that day. It differs significantly from the Top 10 games sales chart, which is dominated by lower-priced titles that sell more copies. Data comes courtesy of Apple's public sales information. All titles in the App Store's "Games" category are considered in chart rankings. This week's top-grossing iPhone and iPod Touch titles are: 1. Angry Birds Halloween ($0.99) 2. Cut the Rope ($0.99) 3. Angry Birds ($0.99) 4. Modern Combat 2: Black Pegasus ($6.99) 5. Reckless Racing ($2.99) 6. Restaurant Story (Free) 7. The Sims 3 Ambitions ($4.99) 8. Plants vs. Zombies ($2.99) 9. Cartoon Wars 2: Heroes ($0.99) 10. City Story (Free) Angry Birds and its new Halloween-themed expansion continue to rank among the App Store's highest-grossing game applications. Chillingo's recent favorite Cut the Rope finishes at second place this week, as Gameloft's first-person shooter sequel Modern Combat 2 remains a steady seller at fourth. EA's Reckless Racing places fifth in its first week of release, meanwhile, as TeamLava's microtransaction-supported Restaurant Story and City Story compete with Plants vs. Zombies and Cartoon Wars 2 in the latter half of the top ten. City Story (Free) Angry Birds Halloween also tops the iPad charts this week, as EA's Reckless Racing proves to be even more successful on Apple's tablet than it is on other iOS devices. Restaurant Story and City Story also drum up impressive microtransaction sales on the iPad this week, while newcomer Casino for iPad beats Cut the Rope HD and Scrabble for iPad at fifth place.
