Touch! Generations Top Slow Japanese Charts

A very slow week of sales in Japan has seen a new Touch! Generations title hit the number one spot, although other new releases have failed to distinguish themselves as established titles such as Yakuza 3 and Wii Fit continue to dominate.

Nintendo’s latest Touch! Generations release on the Nintendo DS has topped the charts in Japan this week, with a new title which roughly translates as Beautiful Letter Training. The self-improvement tool is designed to teach and improve the writing of Chinese characters, which form the backbone of the Japanese writing system. The title tops the charts with just 66,000 units sold, in what is overall a slower week for sales. This is, in part, due to many new titles being kept back for release until subsequent weeks, with an upcoming national holiday expected to spike demand. As such, the second highest new entry this week, Konami’s anime DS tie-in Shugo Chara! sold only 20,000 units at number six and Paon’s Pachislot simulator sold only 18,000 units at number seven. Harvest Moon: Shining Sun and Friends for DS and Wii Play sold just 11,000 units at numbers nine and ten, respectively. Both titles have returned to the top ten after their earlier exit – always a sure sign of low overall sales in Japan.
