Representatives from A.I. middleware provider Kynogon have announced a new partnership with developer Turbine, Inc (Asheron’s Call) in which its Kynapse solution will be used in a number of big-name forthcoming Turbine MMO titles. The new deal will see Kynapse's A.I. and real-time behavior systems included in at least two upcoming Turbine developed games, including its Midway-published The Lord of the Rings Online: Shadows of Angmar and Atari co-published Dungeons & Dragons Online: Stormreach MMOs. Kynapse is currently in use by a number of mainstream developers, including Electronic Arts, Sega, Atari, Real Time Worlds, and Lionhead Studios, as well as behind serious game products by EADS, and British Aerospace. Kynapse gives NPCs the ability to move around in any 3D dynamic world, understand their environment, hide, communicate, cooperate, drive vehicles, and more. Said Turbine CTO Chris Dyl, “Choosing Kynapse was a strategic decision for Turbine. We required an AI middleware solution that could be easily integrated into Turbine's state of the art MMO game engine. The solution needed to be flexible enough to support both the large, seamless landscapes found in The Lord of the Rings Online and the fast-paced, action-combat of Dungeons and Dragons Online. Kynapse’s technology and toolset allows Turbine to set a new bar for the quality of AI in an MMORPG which is key to providing the best online gaming experience for our customers.”
