With Konami's Pro Evolution Soccer 5 not due for release for another week, Electronic Arts has had little difficultly holding on to the number one spot in the UK, with only one new entry in the top ten, in the form of Activision’s Ultimate Spider-Man at number four. There has been some other movement of note, though, with Sega’s Spartan: Total Warrior jumping five places up the chart after its unremarkable debut last week, and Ubisoft’s Brothers in Arms sequel enjoying an even sharper turnaround in fortunes after its first week. As ever, the list of titles that did not make it into the top ten are as interesting as those that did, with Activision’s X-Men Legends II just missing out at number eleven, perhaps due to it being the third major new superhero release this week (Electronic Arts’ critically mauled Marvel Nemesis entered at a lowly thirty-four), and the second from the same publisher. Movie license Wallace & Gromit has entered the charts at number fifteen, and will no doubt catapult further up the listings once the movie is released in the UK. Meanwhile, Taito Legends at number eighteen is the latest retro compilation to perform well in the UK, following titles such as Midway Arcade Treasures and Sonic Mega Collection, while Serious Sam 2 has suffered an underwhelming debut at number twenty-three. Electronic Arts’ latest attempt to break into the soccer management genre appears to have met with the same lack of success as its forebears, with FIFA Manager 06 entering at only number twenty-eight. Gearing up for its third Christmas in the UK charts, though, the budget release of The Simpsons: Road Rage has re-entered the charts at number forty and seems destined to move higher as the Christmas buying season approaches.
