Winners Announced in I/ITSEC Serious Games Showcase & Challenge
The Interservice/Industry Training Simulation and Education Conference announced the winning entries in its annual Serious Games Showcase & Challenge, highlighting a selection of innovative training titles in multiple categories.
The Interservice/Industry Training Simulation and Education Conference (I/ITSEC) announced the winning entries in its annual Serious Games Showcase & Challenge, highlighting a selection of innovative training titles in multiple categories. The competition's 12 finalists covered a wide variety of topics, including language training, combat medicine, ship board damage control, ship handling, mathematics, office security management, gunship rules of engagement for urban warfare, environmental energy management practices, procurement fraud detection, historical insights, and cultural training. Following an evaluation process, judges chose one winning title in each entry category. The competition also featured a People's Choice award chosen by popular vote among the I/ITSEC conference's 18,600 attendees. ECS, Inc's Computer Based Corpsman Training System won the People's Choice award and the competition's Best Game prize in the Government category. The title creates an immersive training environment for battlefield medics, and challenges players to successfully balance triage, treatment, and safety in patient evacuations. The Best Game award in the Business category went to Vessel Damage Control Trainer, developed by BBN Technologies. BBN's application trains students in decision-making processes and communications protocol in the event of vessel damage. NihongoUp, developed by International School student Philip Seyfi of Prague, earned top honors in the Student category. NihongoUp is a Japanese language reviewing tool for practicing letter combinations, improving Katakana and Hiragana recognition speed, and reviewing Kanji characters. The 2010 Serious Games Showcase & Challenge will be held at I/ITSEC in Orlando, Florida from November 29th through December 2nd, 2010. The entry submission deadline is September 15th, 2010.
