Microsoft has apparently let slip that Microsoft Game Studios and Epic will release Gears of War 3 in April 2011 -- according to an advertisement that appeared on Xbox 360's Dashboard last night. Last night had been the scheduled date of an appearance by Epic's Cliff Bleszinski on the U.S. chat show Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, where he was expected to announce a new Epic project. Bleszinski's appearance was rescheduled to Monday at the last minute, but apparently Microsoft did not change the timing of the Xbox 360 ads. The advertisement was screencapped by consumer weblog Kotaku; it reveals only the iconic Gears of War logo, the April 2011 date and the tagline that "the epic story concludes April 2011." Gears of War 2 launched in 2008 to enormous sales success, selling over 2 million units in its first weekend. The franchise in total has sold over 11 million units globally in its lifetime.
