Middleware developer YoYo Games has announced its putting the finishing touches on a version of its popular Game Maker runner for Android phones. The Game Maker development environment lets users without deep programming knowledge create simple titles using a drag-and-drop interface. These titles are currently playable using "runners" available for iOS devices and the PSP, as well as for PC and Mac. But a new video posted to the YoYo Games blog shows Game Maker titles running on Android devices. The company says such titles will be available on the Android marketplace early next year after a "a few finishing touches" are added. The company is also considering plans to expand to Windows Phone 7 and Intel's Meego platform, according to an October blog post. Available on the PC since 1999, Game Maker has expanded into mobile devices in a big way this year, and is increasingly positioning itself as a solution for allowing unified development across disparate mobile platforms.
