WDA Invests $6.5 Million in CET Efforts at DigiPen Singapore

The Singapore Workforce Development Agency has awarded $6.5 million to DigiPen Institute of Technology Singapore to fund the school's Continuing Education and Training efforts.

The Singapore Workforce Development Agency (WDA) has awarded $6.5 million to DigiPen Institute of Technology Singapore to fund the school's Continuing Education and Training (CET) efforts. DigiPen Singapore's CET courses will complement the school's existing certificate and diploma plans, and will help existing industry professionals upgrade their skillsets to match current game development trends. DigiPen Singapore previously partnered with worldwide games publisher Ubisoft to encourage the development of a workforce in Singapore that specializes in the interactive entertainment industry. "The CET courses offered by DigiPen are aligned to the courses and upgrading pathways which WDA has put in place through the Workforce Skills Qualifications framework for the Creative Industries," said Chan Heng Kee, Chief Executive of the WDA. Kee continues: "Such linkages open up further skills upgrading pathways for our workforce and extend the CET benefits, like credit exemptions, that trainees can obtain. Through these initiatives, we hope to help more Singaporeans tap on the new and exciting career opportunities and support the Games industry to develop a pipeline of skilled manpower." The WDA's award will additionally fund up to 30 Creative Talent Development Scholarships valued at $20,000 each, and will support the Career Conversion Program, in which Ubisoft Singapore will offer 36 permanent job placements to DigiPen trainees.
