Global game publisher CFK (headed by Chang-sig Koo) is proud to announce today (2/8) the global release to Nintendo Switch™ of historical storytelling game MazM: Pechka.

MazM: Pechka is a historical storytelling game developed by Korean game company Growing Seeds, telling the story of the diaspora of immigrants settling in the Russian Far East during the early 20th century through the lens of protagonists Pyotr and Asya. The story is based around the events surrounding Jae-hyung Choi, a social worker and independence activist, in Russia’s Primorsky Krai area in the late 19th and early 20th centuries (Enlightenment era to early Japanese colonial era).

● Story

In 1908's Vladivostok, during the aftermath of the Russo-Japanese War, witness the stories of those who fight to find their places in the turmoil that follows.

MazM: Pechka is set in Vladivostok in the early 20th century, painting the stories of betrayal, quarrel, and affection of those who wander in search of their places amidst the political turmoil of the new world order.

In the year 1908 in Vladivostok in the Easternmost parts of Russia:

During a turbulent era, Joseon (now called Korea) finds itself in a position as precarious as a candle in the wind. We invite you to live through the story of Pyotr, a man with nowhere to belong who ends up fighting for Joseon's freedom.

※ What is ‘Pechka’? : Pechka (Печка) is the Russian word for a fireplace/oven in Russian and also the nickname for Jae-hyung Choi. Jae-hyung Choi devoted all of his assets, without reserve, to the Koreans located in the Russian Far East, earning him the nickname ‘fireplace’ from people of his time for being, “A person as warm-hearted as a fireplace.”

In fashioning the events into a 2D side-scrolling adventure game, MazM: Pechka transcends a mere documentary about Jae-hyung Cho’s life, becoming instead a dramatic, historical reimagining of the people and the era through the eyes of original characters and the story of what they go through. After being well-received on both mobile and PC (Steam), it was decided to bring this game to the Nintendo Switch™ to expand to new platforms and make the game more accessible to new gamers.

Through the agony and choices of young Pyotr and Asya, Joseon people forced to live in Russia, the game makes players ask the question: “What would I do if I had lived in such an era?” In doing so, it shows us that the story of the fight against Japanese colonization isn’t just a story of heroes and other key figures of the time, but also a story with a message for our current time of rapid, sometimes violent change.

Along with the announcement of the Nintendo Switch™ release of MazM: Pechka, CFK is also unveiling their promotion trailer for the game.
