A Maker Series First: A new Godot-based ACTION GAME MAKER in development for 2025!

Gotcha Gotcha Games KK (CEO: Narita Makoto), part of the KADOKAWA group, is pleased to announced ACTION GAME MAKER, the latest entry in the long-running Maker series of game development tools, is in development for an expected 2025 release.
 

■An Overiew of ACTION GAME MAKER

ACTION GAME MAKER is intended to be the successor to Pixel Game Maker MV, which was released in 2018 for PCs. Pixel Game Maker MV was designed to allow people of all skill levels to make action games with a purely visual scripting system. Thanks to the support of a committed community of users, Gotcha Gotcha Games was able to start publishing Pixel Game Maker MV games on the Nintendo Switch™. As of June, 2024, more than 50 titles have been published and more are coming out soon.
 

The new ACTION GAME MAKER will continue improving over its predecessor by replacing the backend engine with Godot Engine. This will enable our community to create ever richer and deeper experiences with the same accessibility the Maker series is known for. It is currently in development for a released on PCs in 2025. Console porting support for the Nintendo Switch™ is currently still to be decided.
 

■Steam Store Page & Teaser Video Release!

On Friday, July 12th, 2024, the Steam store page and a teaser video were released. The store page contains additional details and images, as well as the first in a series of Producer Letters. During the development process additional information will be made released, so anyone who wishes to follow the development progress to please wishlist ACTION GAME MAKER.

○Fully Featured 2D Action Games with No Coding

Based on the visual scripting from Pixel Game Maker MV, but with many improvements! No programming is needed to use this node-based system inspired by RPG Maker’s Event Commands. Just link up different actions to make your unique game!

○Plenty of Sample Assets Included

A full suite of assets needed to make a side scrolling action game, including characters, enemies, tiles, music, and sound effects are included! Users will be able to get started without needing to prepare anything else.

The provided assets are intentionally kept simple and small in order to make it easy for users to make modifications or create new assets to extend the samples and begin creating a unique look! And as always, users are free to import their own at any time.
 

○Modern Engine Technology With Godot Engine!

Take advantage of the excellent 2D functionality provided by Godot Engine, the open source engine powering ACTION GAME MAKER.

・UI design based on the existing Godot UI.

・Support for GDScript provided for those who want to move beyond visual scripting.

・A complete 2D pipeline

・Tile Map Editor with auto-tile function

・Supports both sprite and 2D bone animation systems

・Access to Godot’s rich particle and shader systems as well as support for dynamic lighting and shadows, enabling a full suite of graphics features!
 

Thanks to these and other features available in Godot Engine all made available via the Maker series trademark accessibility.
 

■First Video at BitSummit Drift

Running from July 19^th through the 21^st this year at Kyoto’s Miyako Messe, BitSummit Drift is Japan’s premiere indie game event. ACTION GAME MAKER’s first teaser video will be on display during the show. It is hoped that many people will stop by the Gotcha Gotcha Games booth to watch!
