DATE: THURSDAY, AUGUST 15, 2024
LETCHWORTH, UK: Blaze Entertainment has today announced the next cartridge collection for Evercade from its ongoing partnership with Crystal Dynamics with the Legacy of Kain Collection.
These two classic titles from the 32-bit era are still adored by gaming fans to this day, with Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver having sold over 1.5 million units. This new Evercade collection sees the combination of the first game, Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain, and Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver on one physical collection for the first time.
The Legacy of Kain Collection is the next release for Evercade with the new Giga Cart format that allows for larger and more complex games to be included on the same sized physical cartridge as all Evercade collections.
The new collection will be released in September 2024 alongside the recently announced Bitmap Brothers Collection 2 and will be available to pre-order from August 30th. The price of this collection will be the new Giga Cart price of £22.49, $24.99 and €24.99.
The Legacy of Kain series debuted in 1996 with the first title Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain and quickly became a critical and fan favourite with its vampiric setting, deep gameplay mechanics and engaging storyline. Following the successful introduction of the eponymous anti-hero Kain, the sequel Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver was released in 1999 with industry legend Amy Hennig at the helm.
Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver garnered even more success and critical acclaim with the move from 2D role playing game mechanics to 3D third-person action, and introduced another anti-hero in Raziel. The game has lived long in the memory of many fans, spawning three sequels and cultivating a fan following over two decades after its initial release.
This collection marks the second release from Blaze Entertainment and Crystal Dynamics for the Evercade cartridge Ecosystem, continuing the desire to bring more historic AAA gaming to Evercade platforms. This cartridge is also compatible with all Evercade systems running the latest firmware, including the recently announced Evercade Alpha, EXP-R and VS-R systems, and all HyperMegaTech! Super Pocket consoles.
Like all Evercade cartridge collections, these games will come on a single physical cartridge and a plastic clamshell case (numbered #41 with the red console spine) and also include a full-colour manual with great detail about both of the games.
Also available from Evercade and Crystal Dynamics is Tomb Raider Collection 1, a collection of the first three classic 32-bit Tomb Raider adventures. This Giga Cart collection is available to pre-order now, ahead of release on August 30th, either individually or bundled as part of the Evercade EXP-R or Evercade VS-R consoles.

NOTES
Evercade was first released in 2020 as a handheld device with ten gaming cartridges of classic console licenses. Since then it has grown to two other hardware devices (listed below) and now has over 50 physical cartridge collections and over 500 games across the entire ecosystem.
Evercade devices play games via emulation on bespoke cartridges. These physical releases play the games contained and come in a physical case with a full-colour manual, custom written by Blaze with controls, hints and tips, and interesting facts about the titles and developers.
Evercade emulates a wide range of systems (including 8, 16, 32, and 64-bit consoles, handhelds, THEC64, and Amiga home computers, and arcade games), as well as natively run games, and also highlights modern retro games created by indie developers, with support for five decades of gaming.
Evercade Cartridges have three distinct colour schemes to highlight their content. Red-coloured boxes feature home console collections from multiple systems across five decades of gaming. Purple indicates arcade game collections and Blue is for home computer collections.
Evercade Alpha is a new bartop-sized arcade machine from Evercade. With officially licensed designs and built-in games from legendary publisher Capcom, the Evercade Alpha Mega Man Arcade and Evercade Alpha Street Fighter Arcade brings full Evercade cartridge compatibility to the arcade form factor for the first time. These products are available to pre-order now ahead of release in November 2024.
The Evercade EXP-R is the newest handheld gaming system from Evercade. To be released in August 2024, this console allows you to play your carts on the go, features a TATE mode to play vertical orientation arcade games at their optimum screen size, and comes bundled with Tomb Raider Collection 1. This product is replacing the now-discontinued Evercade EXP.
The Evercade VS-R home console is the best way to play Evercade cartridges on your TV. Also to be released in August 2024, the console features dual cartridge slots and support for up to four USB controllers for local multiplayer. The console also comes bundled with the Tomb Raider Collection 1 cartridge. This product is replacing the now-discontinued Evercade VS.
In 2023, Blaze Entertainment launched its newest brand, HyperMegaTech!, to provide more retro gaming products aimed at a more casual market. The first two products, the Super Pockets, also come with Evercade cartridge compatibility and with licensed games from Capcom and Taito. In 2024, two more Super Pockets were announced with license partners Atari and Technos.
