GameRefinery, a Liftoff Company, has released its latest analysis of the US, China, and Japan’s key mobile games markets for April 2022. GameRefinery’s analysts have hand-picked their top updates from April’s data for each country, including new releases, special events, and game updates.
Here’s what they found:
Hybrid elements are key to the success of 4X titles. In April's top-grossing chart, many newer hybrid 4X strategy games, including Walking Dead: Survivors, Age of Origins, and Puzzles & Survival, reached new top-grossing ranks.
Raid: Shadow Legends has brought back Battle Pass! Initially introduced for just one season in 2020, it’s resurfaced for this new iteration, Forge Pass.
April brought further innovation with blockchain features. Summoner’s War: Lost Centuria celebrated its first anniversary with new play-to-earn blockchain mechanics. And the social metaverse app Highrise awarded NFT owners with Creature Coins for participating in a limited-time exclusive event.
Roblox remains the go-to platform for musical collaborations. Roblox hosted a GRAMMY celebration in a Las Vegas Strip social hangout where players could fly around with planes and attend a virtual concert by GRAMMY-nominated artists.
Genshin Impact had a massive update with its Hues of the Violet event, which brought loads of new content, including main quests, side quests, and banner gachas.
Tencent’s MMORPG Black Desert Mobile (黑色沙漠) launched in the Chinese market last month and hit first in the download list.
