[LONDON, England: November 21 2024] - Pocket Gamer is thrilled to announce that the highly anticipated Pocket Gamer Awards 2024 are making their return this December. Mark your calendar for an unforgettable evening on December 6th, celebrating mobile gaming’s brightest stars in an exclusive live ceremony at London’s stylish Ham Yard Hotel. The awards are uniquely voted for by the public and are open for voting now at https://www.pocketgamer.com/pgawards2024/vote/. With over 350,000 voters last year, this year’s awards will be the highlight of the games industry event calendar celebrating the most popular games, teams and achievements in 2024.
Over a third of the world’s population are gamers - and the numbers show why this industry is a global force to be reckoned with. In 2022, the global games industry generated a staggering $184.4 billion - nearly seven times the combined earnings of the music and movie industries, which each generated roughly $26 billion. This vast disparity reflects gaming's meteoric reach and the immense power of interactive entertainment.
The Pocket Gamer Awards ceremony is co-sponsored by Kabam, developer of Marvel Contest of Champions, which is celebrating its 10-year anniversary this year. The awards honour the passion, dedication and creativity that drive this powerhouse industry. Each category’s nominees have been submitted by players and studios, with the shortlists then being opened to the public to vote, making this a true celebration of fan favourites and industry excellence.
Nick Poole, CEO of Ukie (the trade association for the UK's games and interactive entertainment industry), said: “Events like the Pocket Gamer Awards highlight the central role of the UK in the global video games and interactive entertainment ecosystem. At Ukie, our vision is for the UK to be a global leader in games innovation, attracting businesses from around the world and enhancing our industry’s global competitiveness. These awards are a fantastic opportunity to showcase the richness, diversity and creativity of world-class studios and publishers.”
With leading companies like Netflix, Electronic Arts and Scopley in the running, as well as major titles like Zenless Zone Zero and Squad Busters, this year’s awards promise fierce competition for the Mobile Game of the Year. And because each award is voted for by the players themselves, it is the only event that truly reflects the popular vote for the developers, publishers, and teams whose work has truly resonated with gamers worldwide.
The industry's leading mobile games awards ceremony
Pocket Gamer is the oldest and best publication for the mobile games sector. It has been a highly trusted source for mobile games news, reviews, tips, guides, and features, informing and entertaining a global audience for nearly twenty years. And the awards and ceremony are among the many events in the popular Pocket Gamer Connects conference calendar.
"Despite a tumultuous year for the games industry, the last 12 months have seen an amazing number of high-quality games released. After a lengthy nomination stage, we have completed the seemingly impossible task of shortlisting the best of the best! The finalists are now with the public to pick their favourites. Critically, for me, this is a celebration of all facets of gaming, from humble indie titles through popular ports from other platforms up to multi-million dollar giants. We also have room for Best Game We're Still Playing and Most Anticipated categories to award longevity and anticipate the future. More than ever, the Pocket Gamer Awards 2024 are a perfect way to celebrate the full breadth of the amazing mobile games industry," said Dann Sullivan, Editor-in-Chief of Pocket Gamer brands.
Pocket Gamer prestige
Last year’s winner of Mobile Game of the Year and Top Action Title, Arena Breakout, achieved remarkable success by amassing over 80 million users within just three months of its launch. Meanwhile, Goddess of Victory: NIKKE, crowned Best Role Playing Game in 2023, has generated an impressive 750 million dollars from mobile players in 1.5 years.
More than just a highly anticipated celebration, these awards also provide a unique opportunity for professionals to connect with some of the biggest names and faces in the mobile games industry, and sponsorship opportunities are still open. Attendees will experience a gala event featuring a formal awards presentation, drinks and canapés, all culminating in an exciting after-party where developers, publishers, marketers and influencers will come together for a night to remember.
