GUADALINDIE CLOSES ITS FIRST EDITION, BECOMING A NEW INDIE DEV EVENT OF REFERENCE IN EUROPE

The event held in Malaga featured top-level speakers such as "Inscryption" creator, Daniel Mullins, independent tech artist and educator Freya Holmèr, or the Argentinian Daniel Benmergui, creator of "Storyteller". The fair became a meeting point for professionals, developers, and fans in which there were over 30 hours of talks and workshops and more than 60 video games developed inside and outside the country, as well as business and networking areas.

MAY 6, 2024 - Guadalindie, the independent video game fair in the south of Spain, closed its first edition with more than 2,500 attendees. The event, held at FYCMA (Palacio de Ferias y Congresos de Málaga) during the 3rd and 4th of May sought to become the new annual event of reference for video game professionals and fans across Europe, offering an annual event that brings together professionals, developers, investors and any video game fan who would like to know what is being developed in the south of Spain and Europe. Guadalindie has been organized by MálagaJam a non-profit organization in collaboration with FYCMA. Its goal was to promote the talent of independent videogame creators and to foster gender, racial and thematic diversity in videogames.

Raúl López, Fair Director and vice-president of MálagaJam: “Guadalindie 2024 has been a resounding success, highlighting the incredible diversity and quality of the titles that have been presented, as well as the enthusiasm and creativity of the participating titles. Attendees have been impressed by the variety of unique experiences offered by the event. We have managed to consolidate Guadalindie as an unmissable meeting point for the indie community in the videogame industry”.

Among the speaker's lineup there were leading figures in the international video game industry such as Canadian developer Daniel Mullins, creator of “Inscryption”; narrative designer Leigh Alexander, who worked on the “Reigns” saga; and Daniel Benmergui, Argentine developer and creator of “Storyteller”, the UI/UX Design Consultant and Limit Break Mentorship Founder, Anisa Sanusi or the independent tech artist and educator Freya Holmèr

All the talks and workshops given by national and international speakers were broadcast on Twitch and will be available on the MálagaJam YouTube channel.

In the exhibition area there were more than 60 stands with video games on display so that both professionals and the general public could try them out, meet the creators, and discover the development process behind the games.

In addition, Guadalindie had a business area where international publishers such as Team17, RawFury and Devolver Digital, or national companies such as SelectaPlay or Jandusoft could meet with developers to discuss business opportunities. . 

The organization also presented The Goti Awards which sought to entertain attendees by rewarding aspects such as “good vibes”, “the most appetizing videogame food” or the “best word game”.

Guadalindie is developed through the collaboration between the non-profit association MálagaJam and FYCMA, from the City Council of Málaga. It also has the support of the Polo Nacional de Contenidos Digitales del Consistorio malagueño, as well as Devolver Digital, Odders, The Game Kitchen and the collaboration of Asociación Española de Videojuegos (AEVI), Desarrollo Español de Videojuegos (DEV), Anait Games, Resistencia Videolúdica, CSVI (Coordinadora Sindical del Videojuego) and FemDevs.
