Hooded Horse :
September 24, 2024 - Hooded Horse and MinMax Games’ chill colony sim set in the highlands of medieval Scotland is back with another major update. The 15th patch since launching into early access, this latest round of improvements tackles everything from family traits to relationships, story events, and skills.
Update 15’s major changes fall within three distinct themes, the first of which is the Clan Chief. This new mechanic allows players to designate someone as the chief of the clan – the player's decision-making avatar in their world. The Chief will remain the Chief until death or they are removed (one way or another), and they must also hold the support of the wider clan. A lot of decision-making is funneled through the Chief, making them a very real extension of the player’s will in the game.
Next is family & relationships, which is a wide-ranging slew of changes, from familial bonds or other more temporary kinds of relationships to compatibility and match-making. Some types of bonds can be passed down through generations, creating multi-generational arcs with connected groups of characters. Relationships can also be interpreted differently by different characters depending on past events and even a character’s mood – those first impressions are now more important than ever!
Last but not least, skills and traits. Skills are passed down from parent to child, and children can inherit the things their parents were good at. Sometimes, they may get different skills instead and the same is true for traits. While children can develop the same traits as their parents, sometimes they can become rebellious and get the “opposite” traits instead, creating more believable family dynamics.
Other new features introduced in this patch include new customizable tombs, which play an important role in the new “wakes” system – now the clan folk can say farewell to a beloved family member who has passed away in a dedicated area, which will greatly improve their mood. Read the full patch notes here.
Clanfolk is available on PC via Steam Early Access for $29.99 / £24.99 / €29.99 EUR / ¥3,980. A press kit is available.
