The winners in the 42nd Golden Joystick Awards will be revealed in a celebration of games in London and live-streamed globally on all major streaming platforms at 8am PST / 11am EST / 4pm GMT / 5pm CEST on Thursday, November 21, 2024. Viewers can watch the ceremony live via YouTube, Twitch, Steam, Facebook and X as well as bilibili, Ginx TV, Future Games Show, GamesRadar, WhatCulture Gaming and PC Gamer.
 

The Golden Joystick Awards is the world's longest-running public-voted games awards show, receiving record interest with over 12 million votes cast this year. View the full list of categories and shortlisted games below.

 

Highlights:
 

  • Actor Ben Starr will host the awards alongside special guests from the world of gaming including actors Alex McKenna, Alix Wilton Regan, Derek Siow, Neil Newbon, Patricia Summersett and Samantha Béart; as well as content creator GeeNelly; music composer Alex Moukala; Monika Janowska from CD PROJEKT RED; Gareth Damian Martin from Jump Over the Age; previous winners Philip Barclay and Thierry Boulanger from Sabotage Studio and actor, game developer and producer Abubakar Salim. 

  • Over 125 games, studios, hardware and TV shows are represented in 21 categories voted for by the public including Ultimate Game of the Year, Most Wanted, Best Gaming Hardware presented by EE Game Store and Studio of the Year. 

  • 3 categories - Streamer’s Choice Award, Breakthrough Award and Critics’ Choice - are chosen by an expert panel of journalists and content creators. 

  • A number of new categories have been introduced this year to reflect the changing ways people play, including Still Playing - PC & Console and Still Playing - Mobile. Plus a new Best Indie Game - Self Published category which aims to better reflect how games reach the market. Best Game Adaptation is also a new category for 2024, recognising the cultural impact of games on movies and TV.

  • Astro Bot and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth lead the shortlist with six nominations each, followed by Helldivers 2 with five nominations and roguelike deck builder, Balatro with four nominations. 

  • A live musical performance featuring music from some of the nominated games as well as tracks from a selection of classic games will be performed by video game composers Lucia La Rezza and Mark Choi.
